Moon Knight has to be the first MCU show I actively procrastinated on. I was busy with college and exams and honestly, it seemed like a luxury time thing. And it was, I saw it soon after my exams, my Mumbai trip, once everything wrapped up I ordered a burger and a Belgian waffle and sat down for a 6 episode long binge with 0 interruptions.
All MCU shows seem to run this formulaic course of action, where the 4th episode is generally the mind-blowing containing element. It isn't different here however the 4th episode contains the key to what is actually going on. So the first 3 episodes I was very confused. It doesn't introduce any of the characters and doesn't establish any backgrounds. The first episode launches our protagonist into the clutches of the villain and we just keep drawing our conclusions as the episodes keep running. As much as it can be put off as clever writing it can be pretty off-putting especially since I need to know what I am watching. Epic fights and comedic acid trips aside I really need to know to care. The 2nd viewing I am sure will be a much more gratifying experience as I will be able to notice all the little details that didn't make any real sense prior but that shouldn't be the case though, what if I don't have the time to rebinge a whole show.
All that being said Moon Knight knows what it is doing to a pretty justifiable extent. Once it finds its footing around the third episode one can be engrossed enough not to drop it midway. The acting of everyone involved especially Oscar Isaac and May Calamawy as the first egyptian superhero are satisfyingly enjoyable and respectable. The villain has this element of hypocrisy in them which makes them more natural. Egypt is depicted in all it's glory especially showcasing Cairo as a destination. Honestly, it is also refreshing not to see Greek or Norse mythology for one. Egyptian mythology is a fun one to see being explored.
I could describe Oscar Isaac's role in further detail but that would enter spoiler territory but I will say that depicting such a role ratifies a level of respect, to play more than 1 roles as the same character without it coming off as tacky.
Do I recommend Moon Knight? Yes but as a time sink. There's no 'must not miss' elements in it per say and that's why this is a pretty expendable piece of content in my eyes but one that if you are an MCU fan is a must watch.
