Luxury and Contemporary Life

The luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life prevent people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

It seems to be true, what someone once said about the cycle of influence of man upon their progeny. “Strong men bring good times, good times breed weak men, weak men make bad times, and bad times give birth to strong men”. Contemporary life brings with it the luxuries and conveniences that rear weak men. It hinders and makes unnecessary for any person to grow into a strong, independent, disciplined individual.

Throughout history it has been observed, decades of decadence that damned whole empires and colonies. The Indian subcontinent was home to the mughal empire which once commanded great respect in the times of Humayun, Akbar and Jehangir, however, attributed to hedonism and carelessness, various smaller powers strive to claim the power vacuum. Today, there is not a single trace of any remnant from the mughal posterity in any position of royalty. The French revolution is one another example, King Louis XIV grew weak while his population grew increasingly restless but his and the queen Marie Antionette would not hold back on their lavish parties and didn’t care to address the derelict state of the people of France.

This similar behavior is observed not much variedly in today’s younger population. Technology and ease of access to any resource has rendered the common public immobile. To put it in even a modicum of effort is considered to be industrious, and it is appalling how averse to competition the population can be. This idleness caused by the comforts of contemporary life has given rise to a population which is seen as braindead, easily influenced by radicalists, and brainwashed into pushing propaganda for racist extremist political leaders or opening them up to being approached by terrorists. The fact that the youth has become such an easy target to manipulate is genuinely saddening, and the implications of these riots, violence, and embedding of hate will lead to a dystopian world of stereotype of prejudice. In one way this is the transition we can observe when we refer to “weak men bring bad times”.

However, this is not entirely true, technology has also equipped us with tools for better coordination and cooperation. If we can make the right use of these tools to make aware and disabuse some people of the misleading ideals they’re being trained with, we can be sure to acquire a populace we can be proud of. Where every person is a rational master of his/her own mind. Where the thinking is sound and the results are positive. Most importantly educating the population of the history, difficulties, recessions, that have brought about the luxuries and conveniences we have today. To be able to climb upwards on the graph of progress everyone needs to have the mindset of the ingenious experts because of whom we have the world we have today.

Finally, I would like to reiterate and reinforce my stance. The luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life are in no way a bane. They are most certainly blessings, blessings that can corrupt a person beyond repair. But one that can be utilized to bring about strength in person and austerity in thought. To keep the good times going, we must preclude the churning out of weak men.

An Ode to Video games

Boredom can give rise to a lot of things, for me lately, an addiction to writing has really gotten to my head. So here, just a little something I ended up typing to my friend Shruti in a matter of 30 mins when I thought she was offline (But somehow wasn't): Yknow, I want something, that which i cannot say, I want something, that which i cannot describe, I want something, that which i cannot ask for, I want something, something prehistoric, something atavistic, something uncultured, Remnants of a past hobby, Withered, but present, With influence so grand, so emminent, so irresistible One that engenders shivers, goosebumps, and naive exploitable excitement A grating decay of a plane, damp sounds of battering bones and swift stabs that atrophy Explosions that stupor, stories that inspire, and zombies that devour Not trite, not grindy, but one with an end Not limited, not unfathomable, but lovable Addicting, but not degrading Reviving not enervating One that tests skills, not temper a...

Reviews from HuMan's Instagram

Originally Published: 4th January 2021 Movie: Tenet I actually liked Tenet. Kat looked really hot and captivating, and yes, it did counteract the extreme unnecessary and forced evilness of Andrei Sator. Priya also had an engaging on-screen presence. The Protagonist seems so lost yet trained for the entirety of Tenet. And Neil has to be the best part about Tenet. As for the movie, it is depicted and treated in a very filler or prologue kind of way. You know how in Nolan's Batman each movie felt independent and enjoyable on its own, Tenet feels like the upcoming follow-up will truly and properly explain and do justice to Tenet. However, it waits to reason whether or not the public is willing to wait. I really did still love the sci-fi concept of it. It felt new and unexplored. Something I would watch more if better refined. Maybe next time focus less on the logic and just get to the epic action set pieces pls Nolan. Originally Published: 5th January 2021 Movie:  WW84 Are u fuc...

Blue Commutes

The following appeared in a letter to the editor of a local newspaper. "Commuters complain that increased rush-hour traffic on Blue Highway between the suburbs and the city center has doubled their commuting time. The favored proposal of the motorists' lobby is to widen the highway, adding an additional lane of traffic. But last year's addition of a lane to the nearby Green Highway was followed by a worsening of traffic jams on it. A better alternative is to add a bicycle lane to Blue Highway. Many area residents are keen bicyclists. A bicycle lane would encourage them to use bicycles to commute, and so would reduce rush-hour traffic rather than fostering an increase." Write a response in which you discuss what specific evidence is needed to evaluate the argument and explain how the evidence would weaken or strengthen the argument. Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation and the arg...
